Brave Womanhood (formerly known as Brave Motherhood) is just around the corner! This is our 5-session summer Titus 2 ministry of older women encouraging younger women in the faith, and women of all ages (member and non-members alike) are welcome to attend. Each session will be held in the YAC on a Wednesday morning from 9-11 a.m., with a different speaker each session. Due to the overwhelming response last summer (and overwhelming number of children registered for childcare!), childcare signups will be done a little differently this year. Here's what you need to know: If you DO NOT need childcare: You DO NOT need to register for Brave Womanhood. Simply come if and when you are able! If you DO need childcare: You must register through the Eventbrite links below. Note that there are FIVE separate links. Register for each and only the session(s) that you plan to attend. Select as many tickets as you have children needing childcare (if you have 3 children who need childcare, select 3 tickets). Childcare is limited to the first 35 children registered. If childcare is full, you can request a copy of our FPC Babysitter Directory. If you have family in town who are willing to babysit your children, please consider utilizing them so that we may provide childcare services to those who do not. Below are the childcare signup links. Those of you inviting non-members, please forward this information to them. Feel free to contact Bonnie Chancey with content questions and Allison Lumbatis with childcare questions. This week Adam Comeens wil be preaching the sermon titled "One Walking Beside You”. We will not have Sunday School this week, but hope you make plans to join us at 10:!5 a.m. for our worship service.
Read Rev. 21:1-4 “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people.” And, our relationship with God will be so intimate that “he will wipe away every tear from [our] eyes.” And God’s with-us-ness will never again be hindered by our sin or by void or by wilderness. God’s being with us from Genesis to 2019 is just a taste of His eternal, unmitigated with-us-ness of the new heaven and the new earth. Taste it now, and you’ll see the Lord is good. Believe in Him, even in your wilderness, and one day you will have your senses overwhelmed by His nearness to you in the new heaven and the new earth. Praise be to the God who dwells with His people! Pray for Sunday! In Christ Alone, Adam Comeens
Read Matthew 3:1-3 & 4:1 What is it about the wilderness that helps our hearing? What is it about the isolation that causes us to pay better attention? I love to hunt. I love sitting in the woods alone and being able to hear the smallest sounds from the smallest critters. I love the absence of distractions. It seems God has a way of pulling us into wildernesses at times. Seems like when my back is against the wall or I’m in dire straits, my hearing gets better. It is in these places of hardship that my ears listen more intently to the voice of the Lord, and my attention becomes fixed on the One who can guide me out of my troubles. Wildernesses are no fun, but it seems God is pretty intent on using them for His own glory. Has that been true for your life? Have you had those trials, troubles, and wildernesses that have drawn you closer to God? Praise be to God who uses hardships to bring healing! Pray for Sunday! In Christ Alone, Adam Comeens
How does knowing that God is in the void and in the wilderness speak to your pain and suffering? Sometimes our sins take us to these places. Our sin leaves us with voids – a void of peace or a void of assurance or a void of joy. Our sins also create wildernesses – a wilderness of broken relationships or a wilderness of purposelessness. But praise be to God that He does not leave us in those voids or in those wildernesses. God is as committed to rescuing us from ourselves and our sin as He was committed to rescuing Israel from the Egyptians and taking them to the land of promise. God is so committed to our rescue that He killed His own son to transform our rebel hearts, so he could come live within us. And if you’re His, you’ll never know another second of life without Him! Praise be to the God of rescue! Pray for Sunday! In Christ Alone, Adam Comeens
I have the privilege of preaching this Sunday, and we will look at several texts from Genesis to Revelation. I would love for you to read through these texts and begin to see if you can detect a theme or pattern within them. READ Gen. 1:1-2; Deut. 32:9-13; Matt. 3:1-3 & 4:1; Rev. 21:1-4 And, in light of these Scriptures, I would encourage you to go back and read a previous blog post of mine: https://firstpresdothan.com/index.php/blog/24-with How do these Scriptures bring you comfort? How does knowing God is always with you change how you view your circumstances and trials? May the God who will never leave you nor forsake you give you His peace this week as we prepare to worship together on Sunday. Pray for Sunday! In Christ Alone, Adam Comeens
This week's Wednesday night meal will be fried chicken, green beans, carrot souffle, broccoli salad, mac-n-cheese, salad bar, rolls and dessert.
